Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first world leader to cross 100 million followers on Instagram, underscoring his broad digital reach and strategic use of social media to connect with citizens in India and around the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first world leader and politician to surpass 100 million followers on Instagram, marking a significant digital milestone and underscoring his wide reach on the Meta-owned platform
Modi’s Instagram account, which he launched in 2014, crossed the 100 million-follower threshold on Thursday, making him the most followed global political figure on the photo- and video-centric social media service.

According to available follower counts, Modi’s tally on the platform is more than double that of the next most followed world leader, US President Donald Trump, whose account stands at about 43.2 million followers.
Alongside Trump, other major global leaders trail far behind in follower numbers, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with around 15 million, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at approximately 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with about 11.6 million, and Argentine President Javier Milei at roughly 6.4 million.
Modi’s Instagram profile features posts from official engagements, diplomatic visits, public outreach events, cultural occasions and occasional personal messages.
The visual platform has increasingly been used by the prime minister and his team to share updates directly with a broad audience in India and abroad, helping build a large base of followers over time.
Within the Indian political landscape, Modi’s Instagram following is far ahead of other public figures. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ranks second among Indian political leaders on the platform with around 16.1 million followers, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has about 12.6 million. Modi’s lead over both domestic and international counterparts highlights the substantial scale of his social media presence.
