The Nanded district administration in Maharashtra has announced a free coaching initiative for 200 students from economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds preparing for competitive entrance examinations. The programme is intended to help talented students pursue medical, engineering and other professional courses despite financial constraints.

The initiative comes amid drought-related economic challenges across Maharashtra, which have added pressure on rural households. By providing coaching without fees, the district administration aims to make competitive exam preparation more accessible to students who may not be able to afford private coaching institutes.

Who can apply for free NEET and JEE coaching?

Students currently studying in Class 10 at the following institutions in rural areas are eligible to be considered for selection:

Zilla Parishad high schools

Private aided schools

The administration plans to identify 200 meritorious students through an entrance test scheduled for December 2026. Students selected under the initiative will receive structured coaching for medical, engineering and other professional entrance examinations.

The district administration has encouraged eligible students from rural areas to take advantage of the opportunity. However, detailed application instructions, the registration deadline, the entrance test date and the coaching centre arrangements should be confirmed through an official notification before students submit applications.

NEET, JEE and CET preparation to be covered

The coaching initiative will cover three important entrance examinations:

NEET: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, used for admission to undergraduate medical courses.

JEE: The Joint Entrance Examination, used for admission to engineering programmes at participating institutions.

CET: Common Entrance Test, covering relevant state-level professional course admissions.

By supporting preparation for these examinations, the programme aims to widen access to professional education for students from rural communities. Financial hardship can make specialised coaching difficult to access, even for students with strong academic potential.

The initiative is intended to help bridge this gap by offering selected candidates structured academic guidance and an opportunity to compete for higher education seats.

Drought-related financial pressure behind the initiative

Maharashtra has been facing a widespread drought situation, with reports indicating that approximately 75% of the state's districts are affected. The resulting economic pressures have made educational support particularly important for families in rural areas.

The Nanded administration's coaching initiative seeks to ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent capable students from pursuing their academic ambitions. The programme is part of broader efforts to support rural communities during a difficult period.

Students and parents should monitor announcements from the Nanded district administration for official eligibility rules, application procedures and further details about the selection test.
