The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has set a target of enrolling 50,000 new students in its municipal schools under the School Chalo Abhiyan. The civic body has also directed officials to complete the necessary file-processing steps for recruiting approximately 2,800 multi-tasking staff (MTS) within 15 days, according to reports based on an official statement.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the MCD Education Committee chaired by its chairman, Yogesh Verma. The meeting focused on increasing student enrolment, improving school infrastructure, strengthening sanitation and security, and upgrading administrative processes in municipal schools.

As part of the enrolment campaign, each municipal school has been asked to aim for at least 30 new admissions during October. The initiative is intended to encourage more families to enrol their children in MCD schools.

Verma emphasised the importance of improving the quality of education and school facilities to build parents’ confidence in the municipal education system. Teachers and other officials have been asked to play an active role in achieving the admission target.

MCD MTS recruitment: Officials given 15 days

The Education Committee has directed officials to submit the recruitment file for around 2,800 MTS posts within 15 days so that further action can be taken.

The proposed recruitment is intended to strengthen sanitation and security arrangements in MCD schools. However, the reported announcement does not provide a confirmed application date, eligibility criteria, selection procedure or recruitment notification.

Candidates interested in future MCD vacancies should therefore wait for an official recruitment notice before relying on any application schedule or eligibility details.

School repairs and smartboards to receive priority

Alongside admissions and recruitment, the committee has set deadlines for improving facilities in municipal schools.

Minor repairs: Officials have been directed to complete the process of releasing funds for minor school repairs within 15 days.

Smartboards: A one-month deadline has been set for installing five smartboards per school.

Toilet facilities: Officials have been asked to ensure the availability of necessary toilet facilities.

Drinking water: New water coolers are to be provided in the relevant newly constructed schools.

These measures are intended to address infrastructure gaps and improve the learning environment for students.

Committee to recommend value-based education

The MCD Education Committee has also decided to constitute a panel of academicians to suggest ways to integrate moral values, civic responsibilities, environmental awareness and discipline into school education.

The panel is expected to submit its recommendations within one month. The initiative aims to promote value-based learning alongside academic development and help students develop a stronger sense of social responsibility.

Online teacher transfers and waste management

The committee has directed officials to speed up the implementation of an online teacher transfer system and prepare a detailed report on transfers conducted so far, including the rules and criteria applied.

It has also called for installing Aerobins or other suitable organic waste-processing systems on school premises. The objective is to manage biodegradable waste locally and move towards cleaner, more sustainable school campuses.

Additionally, the use of the E-Office system has been encouraged to improve transparency, track pending files and reduce administrative delays.
