Congress Set to Contest for 16 Seats in Kerala Lok Sabha Elections
Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress Party has announced its intention to vie for 16 seats in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, according to V D Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly. He confirmed this during a press conference held on Wednesday.
The seat distribution within the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) for the Lok Sabha elections has been finalized. As in previous elections, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second-largest coalition partner in the UDF, will contest two seats.
Out of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala, the Congress will compete for 16 seats, while the IUML will contest two, and the KCJ (J) and RSP will each contest one seat.
Recently, the IUML leadership acknowledged their request for an additional Lok Sabha seat this time around, asserting their commitment to their decision. However, Satheesan revealed that these issues were resolved through discussions. He also hinted that the IUML might be granted a Rajya Sabha seat in lieu of the additional Lok Sabha seat they had requested.
