UGC flags Rajasthan institute as fake, warns students against admission

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has added a Rajasthan-based institute to its list of fake universities, cautioning students against taking admission in the institution.

In a recent notice, the UGC identified the Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management in Bhiwadi, Alwar district, as a “self-styled institution” that is not recognised under the UGC Act, 1956.

The Commission stated that the institute is not authorised to award any degrees, and any qualifications issued by it are invalid for higher education, government jobs, or employment purposes.

Issuing a strong advisory, the UGC urged students, parents and the public to avoid enrolling in the institute. It emphasised the importance of verifying the authenticity of universities before seeking admission to prevent academic and financial loss.

The move is part of the UGC’s ongoing crackdown on fake universities operating across the country. Such institutions often mislead students by offering unrecognised courses and degrees, which hold no legal or professional value.

Earlier this year, the UGC had released a state-wise list of fake universities in India, highlighting dozens of institutions across multiple states. These entities are not established under any central or state law and operate in violation of regulatory norms.

Officials reiterated that students should rely only on institutions recognised under Sections 2(f) and 3 of the UGC Act. The regulator also advised checking official UGC listings and websites before making admission decisions.

The latest addition from Rajasthan underscores persistent concerns about the presence of unrecognised institutions in India’s higher education landscape. Authorities have said they will continue monitoring and taking action against such entities to safeguard students’ interests.
