The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has announced a six-month Executive Certificate in Agentic AI Systems (Foundation to Deployment), designed to train professionals in building, managing and deploying autonomous artificial intelligence systems for business applications.

IIT Delhi
The programme is offered through IIT Delhi's Continuing Education Programme (CEP). Its curriculum covers large language models (LLMs), autonomous AI agents, multi-agent systems, information retrieval, AI security and enterprise-level deployment. The course combines faculty-led sessions, practical assignments and a final project focused on developing an AI application.
The programme comes as organisations explore ways to use AI not only to generate content but also to perform connected tasks, retrieve information and support business workflows. However, deploying autonomous AI systems also raises questions about reliability, security, human oversight and responsible use.

According to the official IIT Delhi programme page, the course is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2027, and conclude on June 19, 2027. The programme is listed as an online course with a duration of six months.

Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems designed to work towards a defined objective by planning steps, retrieving information, using external tools and carrying out a sequence of actions.
Traditional generative AI systems primarily produce responses or content based on user prompts. Agentic AI systems can go further by coordinating multiple operations to complete a task, subject to their design, permissions and available tools.
For example, a conventional AI assistant might summarise a business report. An agentic AI system could retrieve information from multiple documents, compare the findings, organise the results and prepare a draft report.
More complex systems may use multiple specialised agents, with each responsible for a different part of the workflow.
These capabilities can be useful in areas such as customer support, enterprise information management and business process automation. However, autonomous systems can also make mistakes, retrieve inaccurate information or take inappropriate actions if they lack sufficient safeguards. Human oversight and security controls therefore remain important.
The six-month certificate programme is structured around eight core modules covering the development and deployment of agentic AI applications.
Key areas include:
Participants will also be introduced to technologies and frameworks such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), LangGraph, CrewAI and AutoGen. These tools support the development and coordination of AI agents and multi-step workflows.
The programme includes practical assignments that progress from building individual AI assistants and information-retrieval applications to developing workflows involving multiple agents.
Participants will complete an end-to-end capstone project applying their learning to an agentic AI application while incorporating security and risk-management principles.
The teaching format combines live faculty-led sessions with asynchronous learning resources. An optional campus immersion is also available, according to the programme announcement.
The assessment process includes mid-term and end-term multiple-choice examinations, assignments, quizzes and project work. Participants must meet the prescribed attendance and assessment requirements to receive an e-certificate from IIT Delhi's Continuing Education Programme.
The programme is intended for professionals and graduates interested in developing specialised skills in autonomous AI systems.
According to the official programme page, applicants with a graduation degree in science, engineering or commerce are eligible. At least one year of professional experience is preferred but is not compulsory.
The programme may be relevant to:
Applicants should review the official eligibility requirements and confirm whether they need prior programming or technical experience before enrolling.
The official programme page lists the fee at ₹1,45,000, excluding 18% GST. The additional GST amounts to ₹26,100, bringing the programme fee to ₹1,71,100, excluding the separate application fee. The listed application fee is ₹1,000 plus GST.
The programme fee is a significant consideration for prospective students. Applicants should compare the course's technical curriculum, practical project requirements and assessment structure with other AI training programmes before making a financial commitment.
