Bangladesh recently witnessed violent clashes between the police and mostly student protesters demanding an end to a controversial quota system that reserved 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in Bangladesh's War of Independence in 1971.

The attack took place on July 29, during a children's dance workshop in Southport England, when a 17-year-old teenager stormed the premises and started stabbing everyone indiscriminately.

The death of the Hamas political chief was also confirmed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, saying Ismail Haniyeh's residence in Tehran was "hit" and he was killed along with a bodyguard. Ismail was in the Iranian capital to attend the swearing-in of Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian.

It was on July 29 that the Bangladesh government, for the first time, officially acknowledged that 150 people were killed across the country during the students’ unrest over the quota system. Nationwide mourning was observed today (July 30) recalling those who were killed during the quota reform movement.

The clashes began over a land dispute in Boshera village in Upper Kurram district, a region that has witnessed deadly tribal conflicts, including sectarian clashes and militant attacks in the past.

Several kids were attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in Southport when a 17-year-old boy walked in and launched the attack. He has been arrested.

Venezuela’s election body on July 28 announced that the 61-year-old leader had won 51.2% of votes while his rival Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won 44.2% of votes.
