US President Donald Trump has renamed the ‘Gulf of Mexico’ as the ‘Gulf of America’ through an executive order saying the proclamation restores “American pride in the history of American greatness.”
Trump signed the order aboard Air Force One on Feb 9 as he was headed to attend the Super Bowl.

The White House posted a video where the Air Force One pilot announced that “the Air Force One for the first time in history is flying over the recently renamed Gulf of America.”

According to the executive order posted on the White House website, the renamed ‘Gulf of America’ is “the US Continental Shelf area bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba in the area formerly named as the Gulf of Mexico.”
The order further directs the US Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum to implement it in 30 days and complete the renaming as the official transition.
Reports suggest that the US Coast Guard has already begun using the ‘Gulf of America’ as the renamed version.

“It is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America,” Fox 5 DC reported Trump as saying.
Mexico has been targeted by Trump since he took the oath of office for the second term on Jan 20 and imposed a 25% trade tariff on Mexican goods, which was paused for a month after interacting with the country’s President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Trump has accused Mexico of drug smuggling and illegal immigration into the US.
