SchoolRegistry Academy opens access to computer training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AI, helping learners turn waiting time into practical skills.

For thousands of Nigerian students, completing secondary school brings a period of uncertainty. While they await JAMB results, post-UTME screenings or university admission, weeks or months can pass with little to do beyond preparing for the next stage of education.
SchoolRegistry is offering an opportunity to make that waiting period count, with 2,000 free scholarships for digital skills training through its SchoolRegistry Academy.

The initiative targets secondary school leavers, students awaiting admission and teachers seeking to strengthen their computer skills. It offers short, self-paced courses designed to help learners build practical abilities that can support their education and future careers.
The programme comes at a time when digital competence is increasingly important in classrooms, universities and workplaces. From typing assignments and preparing presentations to managing spreadsheets and using artificial intelligence tools, basic computer skills can make everyday tasks easier and more efficient.
For students preparing to enter university, familiarity with computers can ease the transition to higher education. Assignments are often typed, lecturers share learning materials online, and course registration and academic records are increasingly managed through digital platforms.
Students who can organise files, format documents and use common office applications may find it easier to meet these demands from the outset.
The same skills can benefit young people entering employment, apprenticeships or family businesses, where professional emails, spreadsheets and presentations are common requirements.
The SchoolRegistry Academy scholarship covers six learning areas: Computer Basics, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, artificial intelligence and examination practice for JAMB, WASSCE and BECE.
The computer courses are intended to help beginners develop essential digital skills, while learners with some experience can focus on specific areas such as spreadsheets or AI tools.
Students can also access free JAMB and WASSCE practice questions and mock examinations through the Academy at https://schoolregistry.ng/academy/practice.
The initiative also addresses the digital skills needs of teachers, who increasingly rely on technology to prepare lessons, manage school records and communicate with parents.
Proficiency in Word can help teachers prepare lesson notes and reports, while Excel can simplify attendance records, marks and other classroom data. PowerPoint can support more engaging lessons, and AI tools can assist with planning and developing learning materials when used responsibly.
For teachers who have had limited opportunities for formal computer training, the self-paced format offers a way to improve their skills without taking time away from their classrooms.
The 2,000 scholarship places are offered through the SchoolRegistry Academy, whose courses can be accessed on a mobile phone. A computer is helpful for practising tasks in Word and Excel, although learners can begin with the equipment available to them.
Successful scholars are expected to complete their courses within six weeks, share their certificates and submit reviews of their learning experience.
These conditions are intended to encourage participants to complete their training and help prospective learners understand what the Academy offers.
The programme does not guarantee employment. Instead, it provides practical skills and a certificate that participants can use to demonstrate their learning as they pursue further education or employment opportunities.
School leaders, ICT coordinators and teachers can help connect eligible learners with the opportunity by nominating students who have completed their final examinations and have time available before admission.
Schools can also nominate teachers, allowing staff and recent school leavers to develop their digital skills together.
For applicants, the Academy recommends focusing on one course at a time and practising with real-life tasks. Preparing a CV in Word, creating a household budget in Excel or developing a presentation about a local community can help learners turn lessons into useful experience.
Applications are scheduled to open in mid-October 2026 through the SchoolRegistry Academy website at https://schoolregistry.ng/academy. The programme is limited to 2,000 free places.
Applicants should check the website for the latest application details and availability. Setting aside a regular period for study can also help participants complete their courses within the six-week deadline.
For parents, teachers and school administrators, the initiative offers a way to encourage young people to use the period between secondary school and higher education productively.
Rather than allowing those months to pass without a clear plan, learners can use them to develop skills that may serve them in university, at work and in everyday life.
