Talks between Ghana’s education minister and the German ambassador focused on strengthening technical and vocational education, developing job-relevant skills and improving employment prospects for young people.

Ghana and Germany are exploring closer cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), with discussions focusing on how skills development can better prepare young people for changing labour-market requirements.
The issue was discussed when Ghana’s Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu met German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Landshöft on Oct 19. The meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to consider ways to strengthen their collaboration in education, particularly in technical and vocational training.

According to the Information Services Department of Ghana, the discussions highlighted the role of international partnerships in developing a skilled workforce equipped to respond to evolving employment needs.
The emphasis was on practical competencies that can improve young people's prospects of finding work and help meet industry requirements.
Iddrisu stressed the importance of strategic collaboration in advancing Ghana’s education agenda. He linked such cooperation with improving learning outcomes and strengthening employability through skills training that responds to the needs of the labour market.
Technical and vocational education focuses on equipping learners with practical and occupational skills for specific trades and industries. Its relevance to employment depends in part on whether training opportunities reflect the competencies employers require as economic and technological needs change.
The meeting also highlighted the potential for cooperation with development partners to expand opportunities for education and skills development in Ghana. The two sides discussed the importance of sustained engagement in supporting young people as they prepare to enter the workforce.
The engagement signals interest in deepening Ghana-Germany cooperation in TVET, although the announcement did not identify specific joint courses, training institutions, funding commitments or an implementation timetable.
