University of Bologna offers up to €800 in healthcare aid to non-EU students

The University of Bologna in Italy has opened applications for financial contributions towards healthcare expenses for students studying away from home during the 2026/27 academic year.

Under the scheme, eligible international students with non-EU citizenship can receive €800, while students holding Italian or other European Union citizenship are eligible for €300. The university has allocated a total fund of €200,000 for the grants.

The call is open to students enrolled in bachelor's, master's and single-cycle master's degree programmes, specialisation schools and doctoral programmes at the university.

Students enrolled in medical and non-medical healthcare specialisation schools are assessed on the basis of their enrolment for the 2025/26 academic year.

Applicants must meet the university's eligibility requirements, including a household economic indicator (ISEE) of up to €20,000 and the prescribed non-resident status. Applicants or their families must be resident outside the Emilia-Romagna region or abroad.

For students enrolled beyond the first year of a degree programme, academic credit requirements also apply. However, no academic merit requirement is specified for first-year students, doctoral candidates or students enrolled in specialisation schools.

The grants will be awarded according to a ranking list until the allocated fund is exhausted. Priority criteria include eligibility for an ER.GO scholarship that was not awarded, lower ISEE, greater distance between the student's residence and the university, and younger age.

Applications must be submitted online through the university's Studenti Online portal by 3 pm on Dec 17. Applicants must also complete and attach the prescribed self-declaration of residence form.

The call is intended to support students who live away from their home regions while pursuing higher education at the University of Bologna. The university has published the application requirements and instructions on its official grants portal.
