Delhi-NCR braces for five days of rain as IMD issues yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued wet weather across Delhi-NCR over the next five days, with light rainfall expected initially, followed by moderate showers in the middle of the week. The weather office has also issued a yellow alert for parts of the National Capital Region, cautioning residents about the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the IMD, several parts of Delhi received scattered rainfall during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, with light showers continuing at various locations throughout Saturday. The rainfall provided some relief from humid conditions and is expected to persist over the coming days.

For Delhi, the IMD has forecast very light to light rainfall on Sunday and Monday. Weather activity is expected to intensify from Tuesday onward, prompting the department to issue a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday. Moderate rainfall, accompanied by cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms, is likely during this period.

In neighbouring Noida, weather conditions are expected to remain largely calm on July 26, with partly cloudy skies and no significant rainfall forecast. However, rain activity is likely to increase from July 27, when the city may experience one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

The forecast indicates generally cloudy conditions for Noida on July 28 and July 29, with intermittent rain or thundershowers expected. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for these two days, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning. Similar weather is expected to continue on July 30, with cloudy skies and occasional showers likely at isolated places.

Gurugram is also expected to experience unsettled weather during the next five days. On July 26, the city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Similar conditions are expected on July 27 and July 28, with brief spells of rainfall likely at different locations. The weather pattern is expected to remain unchanged on July 29 and July 30, with partly cloudy skies and intermittent rain continuing across the city.

Ghaziabad is forecast to remain partly cloudy on July 26 without any major weather activity. Light rain or thundershowers are likely from July 27 onwards. The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies on July 28 and July 29, along with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. A yellow alert has been issued for both days, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. On July 30, the city is expected to continue witnessing cloudy weather with occasional showers, although no weather warning has been issued for that day.

The IMD has advised residents across Delhi-NCR to remain alert, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, as waterlogging, traffic congestion and reduced visibility may affect normal daily activities.
