UK universities bring four Indian campuses together for postgraduate recruitment

Four UK universities operating campuses in India will jointly organise a placement initiative for more than 250 postgraduate students graduating in 2027, offering employers an opportunity to interview and recruit candidates before they complete their degrees.

The first UK Universities Placement Week will bring together students from the University of Bristol Mumbai Enterprise Campus, the University of York Mumbai, the University of Liverpool Bengaluru and the University of Aberdeen Mumbai.

The initiative is being convened by global education company Emeritus and is scheduled to take place by the end of November this year.

The participating students belong to the founding postgraduate cohorts of the four campuses. They represent disciplines including finance, technology, artificial intelligence, management and creative industries.

Employers will be able to interview candidates online or in person across the Mumbai and Bengaluru campuses and extend offer letters ahead of their graduation in 2027.

Students bring academic and professional experience

The participating cohorts include both fresh graduates and students with prior work experience averaging between 2.4 and three years. Their professional backgrounds span banking and financial services, information technology, consulting, finance, auditing, accounting, sales, marketing, business analytics, media and design.

Their academic backgrounds include engineering, computer science, business and management, commerce, finance and science.

Students are also gaining practical experience through live projects and industry-related tools as part of their programmes. Finance students, for instance, are being trained to apply artificial intelligence and automation to financial analysis, auditing, risk management and data analysis. Management students are using AI in business analysis and operations.

The University of Bristol Mumbai Enterprise Campus also offers an MA in Immersive Arts, which focuses on areas such as immersive design and creative technology.

How employers can participate

Employers interested in recruiting from the participating campuses have been asked to submit their requests by mid-November through Emeritus at [email protected].

A central placement committee will review the requests and assess organisations' recruitment requirements. The universities will then screen student profiles against the roles before shortlisted employers are invited to interview candidates.

The interviews can take place online or in person at the four campuses. Employers will have the opportunity to make offers before the students graduate in 2027.

Emeritus chief human resources officer Ganesh S said the initiative was intended to give employers access to emerging talent earlier in the recruitment cycle. He also said the placement week could create an additional hiring window in India, where many conventional campus recruitment cycles conclude by August or September.

UK universities seek stronger industry links in India

The joint placement initiative comes as foreign universities expand their presence in India's higher education sector under the University Grants Commission's regulations for foreign higher education institutions.

The four participating campuses operate under this regulatory framework, introduced in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Their programmes follow curricula and academic assessment standards set by their respective UK universities, allowing students to receive the same qualifications as their counterparts at the home institutions.

The placement week is also intended to strengthen links between postgraduate education and employers in India. Organisers have indicated that the initiative could eventually be expanded to include employers from selected international markets.

The first edition will provide an opportunity to assess how a shared recruitment platform across foreign university campuses can connect postgraduate students with employers before graduation.
