IEEE Women in Engineering opens 2026 scholarship applications with US$2,500 award

The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) International Scholarship 2026 is open to eligible international students pursuing undergraduate engineering education. The scholarship carries a monetary award of US$2,500 along with a certificate.

The scholarship is offered annually, with one award available each year. Applications for the 2026 scholarship opened on Sep 8, and the official IEEE WIE scholarship page lists November 8, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT as the submission deadline.

IEEE WIE International Scholarship 2026 eligibility

Applicants must be IEEE WIE Student Members and should be in at least their second consecutive year of WIE membership.

They must also be full-time undergraduate students who have completed two years of undergraduate study in an engineering curriculum at an accredited university or college.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of a minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent grade under their local grading system. Students can apply more than once, but the scholarship can be awarded to an applicant only once. Both self-nominations and nominations by others are accepted.

Documents required

Applicants have to submit a two-part essay as part of the application. The first part should be 1,000 words explaining why the applicant wants to pursue a career in engineering, while the second should be 500 words explaining why they should receive the scholarship.

The application also requires two letters of recommendation. One should come from an academic reference, such as a professor or department chair, while the other should be from a personal reference who knows the candidate and can comment on their character.

IEEE WIE states that the essays submitted for the scholarship are reviewed for plagiarism to ensure originality and integrity.

Scholarship award

The selected recipient will receive a US$2,500 monetary prize and a certificate. The recipient is recommended by the IEEE WIE Education and Outreach Subcommittee and approved by the IEEE WIE Committee.
