This year, three new categories—Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State Funded Government Universities—have been added to the existing list.
The NIRF, introduced in 2015, has seen a steady increase in participation, reflecting its growing influence and importance. This year, over 10,000 institutions participated in the rankings, up from 8,686 in 2023, 7,254 in 2022, and 6,272 in 2021. The framework evaluates institutions based on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR).
