The university improved its global score, recorded gains in research impact and sustainability metrics, and maintained strong performance across multiple national ranking indicators.

The University of Delhi has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, securing the 322nd spot globally and strengthening its standing among India's leading higher education institutions.
The university moved up six places from its 328th rank in the 2026 edition, while its overall score increased from 42.6 to 43.8. DU also retained its status as the highest-ranked public university in India and remained seventh among all Indian higher education institutions.

According to QS, which assessed 8,808 institutions worldwide, 1,504 universities from 106 countries and territories were included in the final rankings.
"The University of Delhi is the premier university of the country and is known for its high standards in teaching and research and attracts eminent scholars to its faculty," the QS website stated.
Among the 52 Indian institutions featured in the latest rankings, DU continued to strengthen its national and international position, according to university officials.
Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh credited the improvement to the collective efforts of the university community.
"The improvement in the QS World University Rankings 2027 is a reflection of the dedication and collective efforts of our faculty members, students, researchers, staff, alumni, and all stakeholders of the University,” he said.
"The continued rise in our global standing, coupled with our position among India's leading universities, demonstrates the strength of our academic ecosystem and our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, sustainability and societal engagement,” he added.
Tyagi further said, "We remain focused on further enhancing the quality, impact and global visibility of the University while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of higher education and nation-building."
The university recorded improvements across several ranking indicators. In the Citations per Faculty category, it climbed from 403rd to 318th place, gaining 85 positions, reflecting increased research visibility and impact.
The university also advanced significantly in Sustainability, moving from 297th to 240th place, a gain of 57 positions. Its Employer Reputation ranking improved by 15 places, rising from 319th to 304th.
Within India, the university ranked second in Employment Outcomes, fourth in Sustainability, up from sixth last year, fourth in International Research Network, and sixth in Academic Reputation, maintaining its position in the latter category.
The latest rankings further reinforce University's position among India's top academic institutions as universities worldwide compete for greater global recognition in teaching, research, employability, and sustainability.
