State General Education Minister V Sivankutty said the Vigilance Department and the General Education Department's vigilance branch will be closely monitoring activities of the state's government school teachers and strict action would be taken against those found taking classes in private coaching centers.
The Kerala government issued a warning on Dec 17 that state-run school teachers who have been found working in private tuition centers would face harsh consequences.
According to State General Education Minister V Sivankutty, it is illegal for governmental employees to hold two or more jobs at the same time.
Sivankutty said in a statement that "teachers in state-run schools should not work in private tuition centers."
He added that the situation will be constantly watched by the state Vigilance Department and the General Education Department's vigilance branch.
Those found guilty would face consequences, and the minister asked school Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) to notify the Department of any teachers employed by tuition centers.
Sivankutty emphasized that society's support has allowed the state's general education sector to thrive and that it must do so going forward.
The minister promised that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the recent leak of Class 11 Christmas examination question papers. Serious action is being taken after parts of the exam paper were discovered on a YouTube channel.
Additionally, Sivankutty promised that there would be no errors in the way the exams were conducted. He continued that the procedure would continue after the current problems were fixed.
A six-member committee was established by the Kerala General Education Department on Dec 16 to look into the Class 11 Christmas examination question paper leak.
