Chhavi Sardana scored 385.80 out of 675 marks in the Haryana Civil Services examination, combining independent study with AI-assisted learning while limiting her use of social media, according to a report.

A 23-year-old law graduate from Hisar has secured the fifth rank in the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination 2025, with her preparation routine including the use of ChatGPT to understand subjects and gather information.
Chhavi Sardana, a resident of Dogran Mohalla in Hisar, scored 385.80 out of 675 marks in the examination. She began preparing for civil services while pursuing her BA LLB degree in Patiala, balancing her academic studies with her goal of entering government service.

Sardana used ChatGPT to clarify subjects and collect information during her preparation, the report said. She also stayed away from social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
Her reported routine involved around eight hours of study each day, generally beginning between 6 am and 7 am. She attributed her performance to consistent preparation, time management and dedication to her goal.
Her experience highlights one way candidates are incorporating AI tools into their preparation. However, her result alone does not establish how much ChatGPT contributed to her performance or whether the same approach would produce similar outcomes for other candidates.
Preparation began during law studies
Although Sardana initially aspired to become a lawyer, she also wanted to join the civil services. She began working towards that goal while still in college rather than waiting until completing her degree.
Her fifth-place finish has also made her the first person in her family to secure a government officer job. Her father, Chirag Sardana, runs a printing press, while her mother, Suman Sardana, is a homemaker.
HCS selection process concluded with interviews
The preliminary examination was held in April, followed by the main examination in June. Interviews took place at the Haryana Public Service Commission’s office in Panchkula from Oct 3 to 8.
Sardana told NDTV that around 60,000 candidates participated in the initial stage of the selection process. She has also appeared for the Punjab Civil Services examination and the Union Public Service Commission examination, with both results awaited at the time of the report.
She said she would prioritise the responsibility she had earned in Haryana while continuing to pursue further opportunities.
