Global Chip Industry Signals Growing Confidence in India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

India is gaining importance as a destination for the global semiconductor industry, with senior executives from leading technology and semiconductor companies highlighting the country’s expanding capabilities, young workforce and growing investment opportunities at Semicon India 2026.
Industry representatives at the event said India’s semiconductor ambitions are being supported by strong policy direction and sustained government attention. They also highlighted the potential for greater collaboration with global companies to strengthen India’s presence across the semiconductor value chain.

Wayne Allen, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Officer at ASML, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in an event such as Semicon India sends an important signal to the global semiconductor industry.
According to Allen, high-level government support for the sector can attract international attention and demonstrate that India is pursuing a clear strategy to develop its semiconductor capabilities.
Peter Chew of Yamaha Robotics highlighted India’s young population as one of the country’s key advantages as the semiconductor industry expands.
He said academic education alone would not be enough to prepare the next generation of semiconductor professionals and stressed the importance of providing students with access to modern equipment and practical, hands-on training.
The expansion of India’s semiconductor ecosystem is also creating opportunities for international partnerships.
Eric Odar, Trade Commissioner and Country Manager at Business Sweden India, said semiconductors were emerging as an important area of cooperation between India and Sweden.
Odar said discussions between the two countries following Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Sweden earlier this year had created opportunities to deepen strategic cooperation in the sector.
Joakim Tolostoy of Swedish company Texic also highlighted the longstanding business relationship between India and Sweden.
Gerard F. Hamilton, Managing Director of Patina Lighting, pointed to India’s growing capabilities in innovation and technology. He said the country had developed a strong presence in knowledge, innovation and technology and could emerge as a major player in the global technology industry in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Gilroy Mathew, Chief Operating Officer at UST, encouraged students to take an ambitious approach as India attracts increasing investment in the semiconductor sector.
He said the rapid growth of the semiconductor industry, alongside the expanding influence of artificial intelligence, was creating significant opportunities for India’s young workforce.
The comments from global industry leaders at Semicon India 2026 highlighted the growing international interest in India’s semiconductor ambitions and the importance of talent development, technology partnerships and investment in building a stronger domestic ecosystem.
