India Scales Up Electronics Components to Build $500 Billion Industry by 2030

India is targeting a $500 billion domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem and $150 billion in electronics exports by 2030, as the government looks to expand domestic component manufacturing and strengthen supply chains, according to an official factsheet issued on Thursday.

Electronics production in India increased from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014–15 to Rs 13.11 lakh crore in 2025–26, while electronics exports rose from around Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 4.24 lakh crore during the same period.

The government said the growth has created a foundation for expanding India's electronics manufacturing capabilities, with the next focus on domestic component production, higher value addition and supply-chain resilience.

ECMS allocation rises to Rs 40,000 crore

The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) was notified on April 8, 2025, with an initial outlay of Rs 22,919 crore and a six-year tenure, along with an optional one-year gestation period.

The Union Budget 2026–27 increased the scheme's outlay to Rs 40,000 crore, with the enhanced allocation aimed at expanding domestic electronics component manufacturing.

As of August 2026, 106 projects across 15 states had been approved under the scheme. These projects cover 30 electronic-domain products and involve an approved investment of Rs 69,548 crore.

Production has already started at 38 approved plants, while another 16 projects are at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation.

Electronics projects expected to create 3.2 lakh jobs

The approved projects are expected to generate Rs 5.34 lakh crore in production, according to the factsheet.

They are also projected to create 74,628 direct jobs and 2.5 lakh indirect jobs, taking the total projected employment impact to more than 3.2 lakh jobs.

The ECMS is focused on building domestic capacity across critical electronics components and materials. According to the government, production capacity now meets or exceeds domestic demand in several product categories.

Electronics are increasingly used across sectors including communication, healthcare, transport, finance, manufacturing and digital infrastructure. The government said strengthening domestic electronics capabilities is therefore important for technological resilience, economic security and greater self-reliance.

The expansion of component manufacturing under ECMS is intended to deepen India's electronics value chain while supporting the country's longer-term production and export targets.
