BPSC cancels recruitment advertisements for 1,711 Assistant Professor posts in Bihar medical colleges

Candidates awaiting appointments to medical colleges and hospitals in Bihar will have to wait for a fresh recruitment notification after the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) cancelled its advertisements for 1,711 Assistant Professor (Specialty) posts across the state.

The commission withdrew advertisements numbered 04/2025 to 28/2025, which were issued in April 2025 to recruit faculty members in various medical specialties. According to BPSC's latest notice, the decision was taken after the department withdrew the petitions it had filed.

The process of issuing fresh recruitment advertisements is underway in view of the revised petitions, the commission said. However, it has not announced when the new notifications will be released.

Candidates who submitted applications under the earlier advertisements will have to wait for the revised notices to find out whether the number of vacancies, specialty-wise distribution, eligibility conditions and selection procedure will remain the same or undergo changes.

The latest announcement also leaves several questions unanswered for applicants. BPSC has not clarified whether applications submitted under the withdrawn advertisements will remain valid for the revised recruitment exercise or whether candidates will need to register and apply again.

It has also not specified whether documents uploaded during the earlier application process will be accepted or whether applicants will have to submit them afresh.

BPSC Assistant Professor recruitment: What has changed?

The cancellation covers advertisements numbered 04/2025 to 28/2025, released in April 2025 for appointments to 1,711 Assistant Professor (Specialty) positions in government medical colleges and hospitals across Bihar.

The recruitment drive was intended to fill teaching positions in several clinical and non-clinical medical departments. With the earlier advertisements withdrawn, the selection process will now depend on the revised recruitment notifications.

The fresh advertisements are expected to provide updated information about the vacancies and the conditions governing the recruitment exercise. However, the commission has not confirmed whether the total of 1,711 posts will be retained or whether changes will be made to the number of vacancies in individual specialties.

Applicants will also need to check the revised eligibility requirements and selection criteria once BPSC publishes the new notices.

Which medical specialties were covered under the 1,711 vacancies?

The original recruitment advertisements covered vacancies across nine medical departments, including clinical and non-clinical specialties. The departments included:

  • Anaesthesia
  • General Medicine
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Paediatrics
  • Anatomy
  • Biochemistry
  • Pathology
  • Radiology
  • Microbiology

The posts were intended to strengthen the teaching workforce in Bihar's government medical institutions. Whether the same departments and vacancy distribution will feature in the revised recruitment exercise remains unclear.

BPSC recruitment process had reached document verification stage

BPSC released the original advertisements in April 2025. The application window was initially scheduled to close on May 7, 2025. However, the commission later extended the deadline for certain specialties until June 30, 2025, reportedly because of a low number of applications.

The recruitment process had also progressed to the document verification stage in July 2025, according to local media reports. The cancellation is therefore likely to affect candidates who had already applied and were waiting for further developments in the selection process.

The commission's latest notice does not explain how applications received under advertisements 04/2025 to 28/2025 will be treated. It has not confirmed whether previously registered candidates will be considered automatically or will have to complete a fresh application process.

The status of documents submitted earlier also remains uncertain. Candidates should wait for BPSC's official instructions before assuming that their previous applications or uploaded documents will carry forward to the revised recruitment exercise.

What should candidates do next?

Applicants who had registered for the 1,711 Assistant Professor positions should regularly check the official BPSC website for updates on the revised advertisements.

The fresh notifications are expected to clarify several recruitment-related details, including:

  • Revised specialty-wise vacancy details and the total number of posts.
  • Educational qualifications and other eligibility requirements.
  • Age limit and applicable age relaxations.
  • Fresh application dates and registration procedure.
  • Selection criteria and details of the examination or interview, if applicable.
  • Whether applications submitted under advertisements 04/2025 to 28/2025 will remain valid.
  • Whether previously uploaded documents will be accepted or need to be submitted again.

Candidates should also review any revised conditions carefully before applying. Until BPSC issues the new advertisements, the vacancy details, eligibility criteria and application schedule mentioned in the withdrawn notices should not be treated as confirmation of the requirements for the upcoming recruitment exercise.

Where to check the latest BPSC recruitment updates?

Candidates can visit the official Bihar Public Service Commission website, bpsc.bihar.gov.in, to access recruitment notices, corrigenda and announcements related to the Assistant Professor recruitment drive.

BPSC has not provided a fresh application schedule or a confirmed date for publishing the revised advertisements. Applicants are advised to follow the commission's official announcements for information about the next stage of recruitment.
