The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to introduce value-based educational activities in its primary schools to help children develop qualities such as honesty, discipline, compassion and respect for others.

The initiative aims to make moral education an integral part of students' everyday school experiences rather than limiting learning to textbooks and classroom lessons.

As part of this plan, the civic body has constituted a five-member expert committee to prepare recommendations for incorporating ethical values and social responsibilities into the school education system, officials said.

The proposed initiative, titled Education with Values – The Foundation of a Better Future, will focus on developing responsible behaviour and good citizenship among children studying in MCD-run schools.

MCD Plans Moral Education Through Daily School Activities

Under the proposed framework, schools may use regular activities such as morning assemblies, children's forums, sports events and community programmes to encourage positive behaviour among students.

The activities will focus on teaching children to respect their parents, elders and teachers while developing habits of honesty, humility, cooperation and tolerance.

The proposed value-based education programme will also encourage students to maintain cleanliness, protect the environment and take responsibility for public property.

The expert committee will examine existing value-education practices in MCD schools and recommend suitable activities and educational resources to strengthen the programme.

Five-Member Expert Committee to Prepare Recommendations

The MCD has appointed five education experts to examine how moral and ethical education can be incorporated into primary school activities.

The committee includes the following members:

Govind Ram Agarwal

Kuldeep Chauhan

Indra Sharma

Vidushi Sharma

Gaje Singh

Education Department Deputy Director Anil Kumar will coordinate the initiative, while academic coordinator Kumar Akhilesh will provide additional support.

The committee will also explore the development of educational materials based on inspirational stories, the lives of prominent personalities and values associated with responsible citizenship.

Committee to Submit Report Within One Month

The five-member panel has been asked to submit its detailed recommendations to MCD Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma within one month.

After receiving the report, the civic body will discuss the proposed measures with concerned officials before deciding which recommendations can be implemented in municipal primary schools.

The initiative is intended to complement academic education with lessons in character development, social awareness and responsible conduct.

By introducing value-oriented activities at an early stage, the MCD aims to help students develop qualities that contribute to their personal growth and prepare them to become responsible members of society.
