Rajnath Singh and Pete Hegseth signed the 10-year defence deal in Kuala Lumpur to boost coordination, tech sharing, and regional stability.

In a powerful reaffirmation of their growing strategic bond, India and the United States on October 31 inked a landmark 10-year defence framework agreement in Kuala Lumpur — a move hailed by both sides as a turning point in bilateral cooperation.
The pact was signed during a meeting between Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who described the agreement as a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence.

“This advances our defence partnership, enhancing coordination, information sharing, and technological cooperation between our nations,” Hegseth said in a post on X, adding that the defence relationship between India and the US “has never been stronger.”
The signing follows close on the heels of another key diplomatic engagement in Kuala Lumpur, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier this week.
Rubio called US-India ties “deep, historic, and important,” stressing that Washington’s relations with Pakistan “do not come at the expense of its friendship with India.”
The twin high-level meetings underscore a period of unprecedented alignment between New Delhi and Washington — one defined by shared strategic interests, defence collaboration, and mutual commitment to a stable Indo-Pacific.
