Mayawati, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has declared that if her party is given the opportunity to form the central government, their first order of business would be to partition Uttar Pradesh and establish West UP as a separate state. She also announced plans to set up a High Court bench in Meerut, similar to the one in Lucknow.
Addressing an election rally for BSP candidate Devvrat Tyagi from the Meerut-Hapur Lok Sabha seat in Alipur on Hapur Road on Tuesday, Mayawati promised permanent government jobs for all unemployed individuals, Dalits, Muslims, the poor, and the youth. She also assured that sugarcane farmers in Western UP would receive a fair price for their produce.
Mayawati criticized the BJP, Congress, and their allies, accusing them of treating the country’s poor unjustly. She claimed that attempts were being made to tamper with the Constitution, with reservations for Dalits and extremely backward classes being compromised, and government employees being denied promotions.
She further alleged that the BJP government was depriving the poor of genuine employment by providing them with government rations twice a day. She took the opportunity to highlight the work done by her government for the people of UP between 2007 and 2012.
Mayawati alleged that Dalits and Muslims were being harassed not only in UP but across the country. She assured that if Dalits, Muslims, extremely backward classes, and the general category of poor people give them a chance to form a government at the Centre, no one will be allowed to harass them.
Mayawati urged voters to support BSP candidate Devvrat Tyagi and appealed for his election as the Lok Sabha MP from Meerut’s Krantidhara. At the event, BSP candidate Devvrat Tyagi, former minister Haji Yakub Qureshi, and Hafiz Imran honored Mayawati by presenting her with a gold crown.
