CBSE board exams 2027: Private candidate forms open for Class 10, 12

Students who need to reappear, clear compartment exams or improve their 2026 results can apply without late fee until October 23.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened the application window for private candidates seeking to appear in the 2027 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations.

The online application process began on October 8, 2026, giving eligible students an opportunity to reappear, improve their performance or complete their board requirements. Applications can be submitted without a late fee until October 23.

Students who miss the regular deadline can apply with a ₹2,000 late fee from October 24 to October 30.

Who can apply as a CBSE private candidate?

The private candidate facility is available to students falling under specified categories. These include:

  • Students declared Essential Repeat in the 2026 board examination.
  • Students placed in the Compartment category in the 2026 examination.
  • Students declared Fail or Essential Repeat in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026.
  • Students who passed the 2026 examination but want to improve their performance in one or more subjects.
  • Students who were allotted a roll number but could not appear in the 2026 examination for medical reasons, except in cases involving shortage of attendance.

For Class 10, candidates placed in compartment in two subjects can opt for five, six or seven subjects. Class 12 compartment candidates can opt for all subjects in which they appeared in the 2026 examination.

CBSE private candidate form 2027: How to apply

Eligible students must submit their applications online through the private candidate section of the CBSE website.

Candidates can submit only one application and must have a working email ID for OTP verification.

For students who appeared in the 2026 examination, their details will be auto-generated in the application system. Candidates from 2025 or earlier will have to enter their roll number and year of passing.

CBSE will not accept offline applications or payments. The examination fee must be paid online through internet banking, UPI, debit card or credit card.

Choose exam city carefully

CBSE has advised private candidates to select their examination city carefully while submitting the application. The examination centre allotted by the board cannot be changed later.

Candidates appearing in the 2027 examination will also be issued a fresh roll number.

The CBSE board examinations for 2027 are scheduled to be conducted in February, March and April 2027.

Students eligible to appear as private candidates should complete the application process within the prescribed deadline and carefully verify their details before submitting the form.
