Mizoram reviews school education vacancies, approves phased recruitment of teachers

Mizoram is set to advance recruitment and administrative measures in its School Education department, with the state government reviewing vacancies in key education posts and phased hiring of teachers.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Education Minister Vanlalthlana jointly chaired a meeting with senior officials from the School Education, Finance, and Personnel and Administrative Reforms departments to examine staffing requirements, according to an official statement.

The meeting considered a proposal to promote Circle Education Officers to the posts of Sub-Divisional Education Officers (SDEOs). Officials agreed to move the proposal forward on an expedited basis, the statement said.

The proposed Mizoram Education Service was also discussed during the meeting. The government is expected to place the proposal before the Council of Ministers at the earliest.

Officials also reviewed matters related to the Hindi Education Officer, Adult Education Wing and Physical Education Wing. The government is considering direct recruitment for Hindi Education Officer positions, according to the statement.

The government has approved the recruitment of 671 regular primary school teachers in phases. Of these, 100 posts are planned to be filled during the current financial year, officials said.

For middle schools, 544 teaching positions have been approved for contractual recruitment in phases. The government plans to fill 212 of these positions during the current year.

The state has also approved the phased recruitment of 107 regular high school teachers, including 57 posts to be filled during the current financial year.

The staffing review comes as the government examines teacher availability across different levels of school education and vacancies in administrative positions.

The meeting also considered the overall teacher position across the state's schools and discussed possible changes to the way some institutions are operated.

Officials examined the possibility of running some schools under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Proposals to merge or close schools with very low student enrollment were also discussed.

The measures form part of the government's broader review of staffing, school administration and teacher availability in Mizoram's School Education department.
