Schools in two blocks of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district will switch to online classes on October 22 and 24, 2026, in view of the Indian Air Force (IAF) air show scheduled in neighbouring Varanasi.

According to reports citing District Inspector of Schools Dharmendra Kumar, the directive applies to secondary schools in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar and Niyamatabad blocks. Physical classes will remain suspended on the specified dates, while teaching will continue online.

The decision was taken in view of the expected crowds and potential traffic congestion associated with the air show, which could make it difficult for students to travel safely to and from schools.

Which Schools Will Conduct Online Classes?

The order covers secondary schools in the two specified blocks. According to reports, it applies to institutions affiliated with the following boards:

Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board)

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE)

Students in the affected schools are expected to attend classes online on the designated dates. The reported order concerns the suspension of physical classes, not a complete cancellation of academic activities.

Why Have Schools Switched to Online Learning?

The change is linked to the Wings Over Ganga air show being organised by the Indian Air Force at Namo Ghat in Varanasi. The event is scheduled for October 22, 24 and 25, 2026, as part of celebrations marking the IAF's 94th anniversary.

The air show is expected to attract large crowds, prompting authorities to prepare extensive security and traffic-management arrangements in Varanasi and surrounding areas.

By moving classes online on October 22 and 24, the Chandauli administration aims to reduce travel-related difficulties for students and maintain continuity in teaching.

What Should Students and Parents Do?

Students and parents in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar and Niyamatabad should check with their respective schools for online class schedules, attendance requirements and instructions for accessing lessons.

They should also confirm whether any subsequent administrative notice changes the dates or scope of the arrangement.
