District administrations in Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Simdega have suspended classes for two days as cyclone-related rainfall prompts weather alerts across Jharkhand.

Schools in four districts of Jharkhand will remain closed on October 28 and 29, 2026, as a precaution against adverse weather conditions linked to Cyclone Arnab. The affected districts are Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Simdega, according to reports citing officials.
The closures come as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in several parts of the state following the cyclone’s landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast early Wednesday.

The district administrations of Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Simdega have ordered schools to remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
In Ranchi, the suspension covers government, government-aided and private schools, with academic activities for students from Kindergarten (KG) to Class 12 suspended on October 28 and 29.
Parents and students should check announcements issued by their respective district administrations and schools for any additional instructions.
Several areas of Jharkhand have experienced intermittent rainfall since Tuesday night under the influence of the cyclone. The IMD has warned that rainfall could intensify across parts of the state.
According to the IMD’s October 28 bulletin, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall was issued for several districts, including Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum. Further rainfall warnings were also issued for October 29.
The weather department has cautioned that the cyclone’s effects could continue to influence weather conditions in Jharkhand through Thursday.
The cyclone crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam in the early hours of October 28, according to reports citing the IMD. It was classified as a very severe cyclonic storm, with sustained wind speeds of 125–135 kmph and gusts reaching up to 150 kmph.
The weather system has also prompted precautionary measures in other eastern and southern states. Authorities are monitoring rainfall conditions and advising residents to follow official weather updates and safety instructions.
Students, parents and school authorities can follow the latest weather warnings through the India Meteorological Department and check district-level announcements for updates on school closures.
