CBSE warns schools over errors in student data ahead of 2027 board exams

CBSE has cautioned affiliated schools against submitting incorrect or incomplete student information ahead of the registration and List of Candidates (LOC) processes for the 2027 board examinations, saying data errors have caused delays and difficulties in conducting exams.

The board has written to school principals and heads across the country, asking them to verify and update students’ personal details and subject information before submitting the required data. CBSE also flagged instances where schools failed to submit LOCs within the prescribed timeline.

According to the board, incorrect subject codes, subjects entered by schools, and student or parent details have resulted in correction requests after data submission. Such issues have created operational challenges during recent examination cycles.

“In recent examinations, the Board has faced several avoidable delays and operational difficulties due to incorrect subject code/subject filled by schools for which correction is sought after submission of data and incorrect student’s/ parent’s details filled which also leads to correction requests from schools,” read the communication.

CBSE said several reminders had already been issued to schools to ensure that personal information and subjects selected by students were submitted accurately. However, errors continued to be reported, affecting the board's ability to adhere to examination schedules.

“Despite the fact that schools were reminded several times by CBSE to ensure correct submission of personal data and the subjects offered by the students, there were errors in the data submitted. All such challenges have affected the Board’s ability to maintain timelines and ensure efficiency in examination while also leading to undue problems faced by candidates,” CBSE said.

A senior CBSE official said the communication was sent to all affiliated schools as the board has begun preparations for the next examination cycle.

“The letter has been sent to all the schools affiliated with CBSE…the board has begun the pre-examination process under which list of candidates who will be appearing for examinations next year are collected from schools…but it has been noticed that several schools does not submit correct details which leads to problems for the board in the examinations process…,” said a senior official.

The board has asked schools to keep complete and updated student records ready before the LOC submission process begins.

The information includes students’ full names, dates of birth, gender, category, full names of parents or guardians with correct spellings, subjects registered according to the scheme of studies, photographs and signatures in the prescribed format.

“It is important that all candidate details are thoroughly checked for accuracy before submission, as errors may lead to complications later in the examination process,” the CBSE said.

CBSE officials said registration for Classes 9 and 11 and LOC submission for Classes 10 and 12 are scheduled to begin shortly. Schools have been asked to ensure that the information entered during these processes is accurate and consistent with their records.

The board also emphasized the need for coordination and advance planning by schools as preparations for the 2027 board examinations move forward.

Thus, all schools are once again requested to ensure that they are prepared with all correct student details before the submission of LOC, CBSE said.

“The Board seeks continued support and cooperation of all affiliated schools to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of examinations 2027 and declaration of results thereafter on time,” the board said.
