PM Modi praises Naga community for blending tradition with modern education

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 29 highlighted the integration of traditional knowledge with modern education, praising the Naga community for its efforts during the 132nd edition of Mann Ki Baat.

He referred to the Morung system in Nagaland as an example of how indigenous practices are being adapted to meet present-day educational needs.

Traditionally, Morung served as a space where elders passed on knowledge of culture, history, and life skills to younger generations through storytelling and shared experiences.

The Prime Minister noted that the system now incorporates subjects such as mathematics and science while retaining its cultural roots.

He said this approach combines learning with storytelling, folk songs, and traditional games, enabling children to develop both academic understanding and practical skills.

Praising the initiative, Modi said it demonstrates how cultural heritage can coexist with progress in education. He encouraged people across the country to identify and share similar efforts from their regions.

He added that such community-driven initiatives play a key role in shaping future generations while preserving India’s diverse cultural legacy.
