UGC flags Rajasthan institute as fake, updates list of unrecognized universities

The University Grants Commission has added a Rajasthan-based institute to its list of fake universities, warning students against enrolling in unrecognized institutions.

The Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management in Bhiwadi, Alwar district, has been declared fake and is not authorized to award undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.

"This has come to the notice of the UGC that Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology & Management, Mansa Chowk, Bhiwadi, District Alwar (Rajasthan), is awarding degrees in violation of the UGC Act, 1956. The UGC has included its name in the list of fake universities,” the notice said.

“It is informed that Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology & Management, District Alwar (Rajasthan), is neither recognized by the UGC under Section 2(f) nor Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Hence, it is not entitled to award any UG/PG degree. Any degree awarded by this institute so far is not valid for higher education or government employment purposes," it added.

The Commission reiterated that degrees issued by this institution are not valid for higher education or government employment and advised students and parents to avoid taking admission in such entities.

The updated list of fake universities as of March 2026 includes several institutions across states. In Andhra Pradesh, the list features Christ New Testament Deemed University, Guntur, and Bible Open University of India, Visakhapatnam. Arunachal Pradesh includes the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine.

Delhi has multiple entries such as World Peace of United Nations University, Institute of Management and Engineering, All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences State Government University, Commercial University Ltd., United Nations University, and Vocational University.

The list also includes ADR Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, Viswakarma Open University for Self Employment, Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya, National Institute of Management Solution, and Mountain Institute of Management and Technology.

In Haryana, Magic and Art University, Faridabad, has been listed. Jharkhand includes Daksha University, Ranchi. Karnataka features Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth, Tumkur, and Global Human Peace University, Bengaluru.

Kerala includes the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine, Kozhikode, and St John’s University. Maharashtra lists Raja Arabic University, Nagpur, and National Backward Krushi Vidyapeeth, Solapur.

Puducherry includes Usha Latchumanan College of Education and Sree Bodhi Academy of Higher Education. Rajasthan includes Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Bhiwadi.

Uttar Pradesh has Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayagraj; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University Open University, Aligarh; Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow; and Mahamaya Technical University, Noida.

West Bengal includes the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata, and the Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Kolkata.
