IIT BHU to organize GramVigyan 2026 for rural schoolchildren on Oct 24

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU, Varanasi, will organize GramVigyan 2026 on Oct 24 to introduce rural schoolchildren to science and sustainability through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations and practical learning experiences.

The outreach initiative aims to encourage scientific curiosity and raise awareness of sustainable development among students in Classes VI to VIII. The program will take place at UPS Tikary in Varanasi and focus on helping children understand scientific concepts through activities that connect classroom learning with real-world challenges.

GramVigyan 2026 will be organized by the Virtual Sustainable Development Centre, also known as the SDG Centre, at IIT (BHU), in collaboration with the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) and the institute’s Social Service Council (SSC).

The program will use experiential learning to engage students in scientific exploration and sustainability-related activities. Instead of relying solely on conventional classroom instruction, participants will be encouraged to investigate concepts, observe demonstrations and develop a practical understanding of scientific principles.

GramVigyan 2026 to feature experiments and young innovators challenge

According to the program details, the event will include hands-on experiments, interactive demonstrations, working models, quizzes and a young innovators challenge.

These activities will give students opportunities to explore scientific ideas through direct participation. Experiments and demonstrations will help them observe how scientific principles work, while working models and the innovators challenge will encourage them to apply their understanding to practical problems.

The quizzes will provide another way for students to engage with scientific concepts and test their knowledge. Together, the activities are intended to make science more accessible and encourage children to develop an interest in scientific inquiry from an early age.

The initiative will focus on students in Classes VI to VIII, introducing them to scientific concepts through interactive formats suited to experiential learning. By allowing participants to engage directly with the activities, the program aims to encourage observation, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Science outreach to address sustainability challenges

GramVigyan 2026 will connect science education with practical environmental and sustainability issues, including waste management, clean energy, water conservation, microbes, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity.

The focus on waste management and water conservation will introduce students to challenges related to resource use and environmental protection. Activities on clean energy will help connect scientific concepts with approaches to meeting energy needs more sustainably.

The program will also cover microbes and their relevance to science, alongside sustainable agriculture and biodiversity. These subjects will expose students to the relationship between scientific knowledge, natural systems and the practices that affect the environment.

By linking science with these real-world issues, the initiative aims to help rural schoolchildren understand how scientific knowledge can be applied to everyday challenges. The activities will encourage them to explore possible solutions and consider the role of science in creating cleaner and more sustainable communities.

IIT BHU expands community-based science learning

GramVigyan 2026 reflects IIT (BHU)'s efforts to connect scientific learning with community engagement, sustainability awareness and sustainable development.

Through the collaboration between the institute’s SDG Centre, INYAS and SSC, the program will bring science outreach activities to rural schoolchildren in Varanasi. Its focus on practical demonstrations and student participation is intended to make scientific learning more engaging beyond conventional classroom settings.

The initiative also aims to encourage young learners to think critically about environmental challenges and explore practical approaches to addressing them. By introducing sustainability-related topics alongside scientific activities, the program seeks to build awareness of environmental responsibility among schoolchildren.

Scheduled for Oct 24, GramVigyan 2026 will provide students at UPS Tikary with opportunities to engage with science through experiments, models, demonstrations and interactive challenges.

The initiative combines scientific outreach with sustainability education to encourage curiosity and help children consider practical solutions for a cleaner and greener future.
