Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has inaugurated a series of education and skill-development facilities across the national capital, including a new government school in Dwarka, a women’s hostel at Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) and advanced training centres at three Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

The initiatives were undertaken under the Delhi government’s Seva Sankalp Campaign. The Chief Minister also laid foundation stones for an integrated college and polytechnic in Okhla, an advanced manufacturing laboratory and a faculty office building at NSUT’s main campus, according to reports published on October 12 and 13.

The projects are intended to strengthen educational infrastructure, expand access to higher education and provide students with practical training aligned with changing industry requirements.

New Government School in Dwarka to Accommodate 2,000 Students

The newly constructed co-educational senior secondary school in Sector 16B, Dwarka, has a capacity of approximately 2,000 students. It will cater to Classes 6 to 12 and provide Science, Commerce and Arts streams.

The campus has 75 rooms, including smart classrooms, specialised laboratories, a library and an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory. Facilities for sports, music and other extracurricular activities have also been developed.

The school is expected to expand access to government education in the Dwarka area while providing students with modern classroom facilities and opportunities for academic and extracurricular development.

NSUT Opens Women’s Hostel with 120-Student Capacity

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a newly constructed hostel for women students at the East Campus of Netaji Subhas University of Technology.

With accommodation for 120 students, the facility is intended to support women pursuing higher education, particularly those travelling from distant locations. On-campus accommodation can help students reduce commuting difficulties and spend more time on academic activities.

The initiative is part of the wider effort to improve educational access and provide residential facilities at technical institutions.

Three ITIs Get Centres of Excellence for Advanced Skills

The Delhi government has inaugurated high-tech Centres of Excellence at three Industrial Training Institutes: ITI Jahangirpuri, ITI Dhirpur and ITI Narela.

The centres are designed to provide hands-on training in technologies relevant to modern manufacturing and emerging industries. The planned training areas include:

Industrial automation and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

Robotics and digital manufacturing

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining

Three-dimensional scanning

Solar technology and renewable energy

Smart energy systems and energy efficiency

According to the reported project details, the Centre of Excellence at ITI Jahangirpuri is expected to benefit around 1,000 trainees annually, while the Dhirpur centre is projected to serve approximately 1,200 trainees each year.

The Narela centre will focus on renewable and green-energy skills, preparing trainees for potential employment opportunities in the expanding clean-energy sector.

These facilities are intended to strengthen vocational education by giving students practical exposure to modern equipment and technologies.

G B Pant Integrated College and Polytechnic Planned in Okhla

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the G B Pant Integrated College and Polytechnic project in Okhla.

The proposed institution will bring engineering education, polytechnic courses, skill development and research facilities together on a single campus. Plans include modern laboratories, smart classrooms, a library and hostel accommodation.

The institution aims to increase its student capacity from approximately 2,880 to 7,000 after the project is completed. The proposed expansion could create additional opportunities for students seeking technical and vocational education in Delhi.

The increase represents a planned future capacity, rather than the number of students currently enrolled or already accommodated.

NSUT to Get Advanced Manufacturing Lab and Faculty Building

Two additional projects were announced at NSUT’s main campus: an Advanced Manufacturing Lab and a dedicated Faculty Office Building.

The proposed Advanced Manufacturing Lab is expected to provide industry-oriented practical training to around 2,000 students. It is intended to help learners develop familiarity with contemporary manufacturing processes and technologies used in industrial settings.

The Faculty Office Building is planned to provide dedicated space for academic work, research, student guidance and collaboration among faculty members.

Both projects are aimed at strengthening the university’s infrastructure and supporting technical education and research.

Delhi Government Focuses on Education and Employment Skills

Rekha Gupta said education should go beyond obtaining academic qualifications and help young people become self-reliant, develop their capabilities and contribute to national development.

She highlighted the government’s focus on improved infrastructure, modern technology and practical learning to enhance students’ future opportunities.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood also emphasised the need to connect educational programmes with industry requirements. He said the government was developing ITIs as Centres of Excellence to improve the relevance of vocational training.

The Higher Education Department is also preparing to launch the Delhi Skill Mission, according to the reported announcement. Further details about its implementation, eligibility criteria and rollout schedule would be needed before prospective applicants could assess the programme.

What the New Projects Mean for Students

The initiatives cover several stages of education, from secondary schooling to university education and vocational training.

The new Dwarka school is expected to expand access to secondary education, while the NSUT hostel addresses accommodation needs for women students. The ITI centres focus on practical technical skills, and the proposed Okhla and NSUT projects aim to expand higher-education infrastructure.

Their longer-term impact will depend on factors such as project completion timelines, access to facilities, the quality of training, industry partnerships and the availability of employment opportunities.

The developments mark an expansion of Delhi’s planned education and technical-training infrastructure under the Seva Sankalp Campaign, with an emphasis on modern learning facilities and skills relevant to the workforce.
