Semiconductor Projects Drive New Infrastructure Development in Dholera

Gujarat is emerging as a major hub for India’s semiconductor expansion, with six of the 12 chip manufacturing projects approved under Semicon India 1.0 located in the state, while Dholera is developing a broader industrial ecosystem to support the sector, according to an official factsheet released on Monday.

The development of a semiconductor fabrication facility requires infrastructure extending beyond manufacturing, including healthcare, education, housing, emergency services and commercial facilities. Dholera is therefore developing an integrated township alongside the semiconductor ecosystem.

Infrastructure projects currently underway include a 200-bed hospital targeted for completion by December 2026, an International Baccalaureate school building expected to be completed around October 2026, and a dedicated accommodation facility for investors scheduled for completion by the end of September.

The hospital is expected to be managed by the Gujarat government. Work is also progressing on emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordination mechanisms involving relevant agencies to support the growing industrial ecosystem.

Discussions are underway with private players for operating the school, according to the factsheet.

The semiconductor projects in Gujarat form part of cumulative investment commitments of more than Rs 1.64 lakh crore across India under Semicon India 1.0. These investments cover semiconductor fabrication, compound semiconductors, display technologies and advanced packaging.

The township is also witnessing the development of supporting infrastructure. A fire station has already been completed, while a food court was completed in July 2026.

Residential and commercial developments are currently underway, with their completion projected between the middle and end of 2027. A Tent City has also been completed, with vendors in the final stages of securing approvals to commence operations, while a hotel is under construction.

The parallel development of industrial and social infrastructure reflects the scale of the semiconductor ecosystem being planned around Dholera. The objective is to create an integrated industrial destination where manufacturing facilities can operate alongside the infrastructure required by employees, businesses and supporting services.

The emerging model goes beyond establishing individual semiconductor manufacturing units and seeks to build the wider ecosystem needed to support India’s semiconductor ambitions at scale, the statement said.
