Stronger Transport Links Seen as Key to Expanding India-Cyprus Cooperation

India and Cyprus have discussed ways to expand cooperation in connectivity, transport and the maritime sector as the two countries work to deepen their bilateral partnership.

The discussions took place during a meeting between India’s High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish, and Cyprus Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Evie Tsolaki, the High Commission of India in Nicosia said on Monday.

“High Commissioner Mr Manish met Ms Evie Tsolaki, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, and discussed avenues to further strengthen India-Cyprus cooperation in connectivity, transport and the maritime sector,” the mission said in a post on X.

The discussions focused on strengthening linkages and identifying practical areas of collaboration in the three sectors, the High Commission added.

The latest meeting follows a broader review of bilateral ties held on September 18, when High Commissioner Manish met Polly Ioannou, Deputy Political Director; Demetris Assos, Officer in the Diplomatic Office of the President; and Georgios Georgiou, Head of the Asia and Oceania Department at Cyprus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The officials reviewed the India-Cyprus bilateral agenda and progress across priority areas of cooperation. The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and to translating the vision of the leaders of both countries into tangible outcomes.

The engagement comes after Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to India in May, during which he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the visit, the two leaders agreed to elevate India-Cyprus relations to a strategic level, with greater cooperation in areas including defence and transport connectivity.

The renewed focus on transport and maritime cooperation comes as both countries seek to build stronger economic and strategic linkages and expand practical collaboration across sectors.
