US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as Senior White House Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence, focusing on US leadership in AI and shaping government policy.
US President-elect Donald Trump has selected Indian-American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author Sriram Krishnan as the Senior White House Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence.
"Sriram Krishnan will serve as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy,” said Trump.
“Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI and help shape and coordinate AI policy across the government, including working with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure,” he added.
Krishnan graduated from Kattankulathur, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu's SRM Valliammai Engineering College.
He began his career with Microsoft, where he contributed to developing Windows Azure, especially its services and APIs.
He also authored “Programming Windows Azure,” published by O'Reilly.
Krishnan joined Facebook in 2013, where he played a key role in growing the company’s mobile app download ads business.
Before joining Twitter (now X) in 2019, where he worked with Elon Musk on restructuring the platform, he had worked at Snap.
Krishnan joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner in 2021, and in 2023 he oversaw the establishment of the company's first overseas office in London.
Krishnan also serves as an advisor for Cred, a fintech business based in India. He and his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, are well-known for co-hosting a podcast called The Aarthi and Sriram Show.
Krishnan thanked Trump on X following his announcement.
"Working closely with @DavidSacks, I am honoured to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI," he wrote in a post.
"This extraordinary team is a testament to the amazing talent that President Trump is attracting to his administration!" Sacks said on X.
