Delhi's AAP Minister Atishi Receives EC Notice for Alleged Misstatements Regarding BJP

Election Commission Sends Notice to Delhi's AAP Minister Atishi
The Election Commission has served a notice to Atishi, a minister from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, seeking her response by April 6th concerning certain remarks made about the BJP that have been called into question.
According to the Commission, a grievance was lodged by the BJP challenging the accuracy of statements Atishi made during a press event on April 2nd. The BJP's complaint, dated April 4th, accuses Atishi of making unfounded and potentially misleading assertions against their party.

In its communication, the Commission reminded Atishi of her responsibilities as a public figure and a minister, emphasizing that the electorate often takes the public statements of their leaders at face value, which can significantly influence the narrative of the campaign.
The Commission expects that public statements, especially those made by individuals in positions of authority, should be grounded in fact. It also noted that when the truthfulness of such statements is disputed, there should be substantial evidence to support them. The matter is currently under review by the Commission, considering the Model Code of Conduct and pertinent election laws.
Previously, Atishi had made claims suggesting that she had been pressured to switch allegiance to the BJP or face punitive actions, including potential raids and detention. "I have been informed that Enforcement Directorate raids at our home are imminent, followed by our arrest. The BJP seems to be targeting the subsequent tier of AAP leadership," Atishi stated.
