After NEET protest success, CJP expands agenda to E20 fuel, jobs and unemployment concerns

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the student-led movement that spearheaded protests over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, has shifted its focus towards broader public issues, including the government’s E20 ethanol-blended petrol policy, unemployment and job opportunities for young Indians.

The organisation, led by Abhijeet Dipke, has said it will continue functioning as a social movement rather than immediately entering electoral politics.

The decision comes after weeks of protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, during which the group emerged as a prominent youth-led platform.

Following its NEET-related campaign, CJP has now raised concerns around E20 petrol, which refers to petrol containing 20 per cent ethanol blended with 80 per cent petrol.

The group has joined the wider public debate around fuel choice, vehicle compatibility and consumer concerns following the nationwide adoption of E20 as the standard petrol variant.

The government has maintained that the ethanol blending programme was introduced after consultations with automobile manufacturers, oil marketing companies, research institutions and technical organisations.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said E20 fuel has undergone scientific validation and is aimed at reducing crude oil imports, lowering emissions and supporting domestic ethanol production.

The Centre has also clarified that there is currently no plan to provide separate options for pure petrol (E0) or lower ethanol blends such as E10 alongside E20 at fuel stations.

According to the government, maintaining multiple fuel grades across the country’s extensive fuel distribution network would create logistical challenges and increase costs.

The E20 rollout has triggered public discussions over issues such as mileage reduction, compatibility of older vehicles and consumer choice.

Automobile industry representatives and government authorities have both weighed in on concerns regarding fuel quality and vehicle performance.

Apart from E20, CJP has highlighted unemployment as another issue it plans to address. The movement’s expansion reflects a broader attempt to bring youth-related concerns, including employment opportunities and institutional accountability, into public discussions.

CJP has expressed support for student protests in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Dipke said the organisation would stand with students protesting in the state and indicated that he would visit Jharkhand to support their demands.

The Jharkhand protests have centred around demands for transparency in recruitment processes, accountability in examination systems and action against alleged irregularities affecting candidates seeking government jobs.

CJP’s involvement marks an expansion of its campaign from medical entrance examination issues to broader concerns related to competitive examinations and youth employment.

The group’s earlier campaign against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations drew significant attention, with protests centred around demands for accountability in the examination system.

The agitation continued for several weeks and involved demonstrations in Delhi, political reactions and legal proceedings related to protest management.

While CJP has not announced plans to become a political party, its leadership has indicated that the movement will continue engaging with public issues through campaigns and consultations.

The organisation’s next phase will determine whether it evolves into a wider youth advocacy platform focused on education, employment and governance-related concerns.

Who is Abhijeet Dipke?

Hailing from Maharashtra, Abhijeet Dipke came into prominence after he started the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online movement that was initially launched as a satirical initiative.

The idea behind CJP, according to Dipke, was to create a platform to raise concerns around issues affecting young Indians, including unemployment, examination irregularities and lack of accountability in public institutions.

What began as a digital campaign later evolved into a youth-led movement that gained national attention during protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

Holding a master’s degree in public relations from Boston University in the United States, Dipke has a background in communication and digital campaigning. He has been associated with political communication and has worked on digital outreach initiatives before launching CJP.

Dipke has maintained that CJP is currently focused on functioning as a people’s movement and pressure group rather than immediately becoming a conventional political party.
