MoE opens applications for NIT Director posts, apply by May 29

The Ministry of Education has opened applications for the position of Director at two National Institutes of Technology, located in Calicut, Kerala, and Delhi.

The recruitment is for one post at each institute, with appointments to be made through a selection process outlined in the official notification.

The role carries a monthly salary of ₹210,000 along with a special allowance of ₹11,250 and other applicable benefits, similar to those offered to Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities and Directors of Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.

Eligibility criteria

As per the notification, the Director serves as the academic and administrative head of the institute and is expected to demonstrate strong leadership along with a solid background in teaching, research, and administration.

The document states that applicants must have substantial experience in guiding research at the PhD level.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A visionary with proven leadership qualities
  • Strong administrative capabilities supported by teaching and research credentials
  • PhD degree with first class at both bachelor’s and master’s levels in Engineering or Technology
  • Recognized expertise in their field of specialization
  • At least 15 years of experience in teaching, industry, or research, with a minimum of seven years at the level of Professor or above in a reputed institution
  • Preferably not more than 65 years of age

Application process

Eligible candidates can apply through the official website nitcouncil.org.in. The application window is open from April 30 to May 29, 2026.

Applicants are required to upload their bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degree certificates while submitting the online application. They must also provide a no-objection certificate on the portal by June 15.

The notification states, "Appointment will be made from a panel of names recommended by a Committee."

Salary and institutional details

The position offers a monthly pay of ₹210,000 along with a special allowance of ₹11,250 and other standard allowances.

National Institutes of Technology are centrally funded autonomous technical institutions under the Ministry of Education.
