Birla Open Minds has announced an academic partnership with Burlington English to integrate digital learning materials into its English Reader textbooks for students in Grades 1 to 8. The collaboration is intended to make English lessons more interactive by combining traditional textbooks with multimedia content and technology-enabled activities.

According to the announcement, the programme will include interactive vocabulary tools, Shuffle Plus games, videos, documentaries, songs and digital worksheets. The resources are designed to help students practise English through listening, speaking, reading, writing and activity-based learning.

The organisations plan to introduce the integrated programme across the Birla Open Minds school network from the 2027–28 academic session. Students will be able to access the digital materials through the Birla Open Minds app, allowing them to continue learning beyond the classroom.

Digital tools to support English language development

The partnership aims to complement textbook-based teaching with multimedia resources that encourage participation and practical use of English. Through games, audio-visual content and interactive exercises, students will be able to engage with vocabulary, improve comprehension and practise communication skills.

The programme is also intended to make lessons more engaging by allowing learners to encounter English in different formats rather than relying exclusively on printed material. The organisations expect the combination of print and digital resources to support students' confidence and language development.

Teacher support and personalised learning

Teachers will receive orientation on multimodal teaching methods to help them incorporate digital resources into regular classroom instruction. The programme will also include a worksheet generator that educators can use to prepare activities suited to students with different learning needs.

By combining classroom teaching with technology-based resources, the initiative seeks to give teachers additional options for explaining concepts, reinforcing lessons and supporting individual learners.

The collaboration is positioned as part of a broader move towards more interactive and skills-oriented education. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises experiential language learning, conversation and interaction as important elements of language teaching.

What the leadership said about the partnership

Nirvaan Birla, Managing Director of Birla Open Minds, said the partnership would help make English learning more engaging and relevant by enabling students to experience language through listening, speaking and interactive activities.

He said the initiative aims to develop confident communicators who can use English effectively in an increasingly interconnected world.

Amit Baveja, Managing Director of Burlington English for India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, welcomed the collaboration and highlighted the value of combining structured teaching with digital learning experiences.

Baveja said the partnership would bring together multimedia resources, interactive games and practical language activities to support educators and help students build stronger language skills.
