CBSE issues Class 12 supplementary practical exam guidelines, tests from July 29

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released detailed guidelines for conducting the Class 12 Supplementary Practical Examinations 2026, which are scheduled to be held from July 29 to August 4 for eligible compartment candidates.

According to the board, the practical examinations are mandatory for students placed in the Compartment category under Repeat Practical (RP) and Repeat Theory and Practical Both (RB).

Students classified under the Repeat Practical (RP) category are required to appear only for the practical examination, as their theory marks from the main examination will be carried forward.

Those placed in the Repeat Theory and Practical Both (RB) category must appear for both the theory and practical examinations during the supplementary exams.

The board said regular candidates will take their practical examinations at their respective schools, while private candidates will appear at their allotted theory examination centers.

If the required laboratory or practical facilities are unavailable at a center, the concerned CBSE Regional Office may arrange for the examination to be conducted at a nearby school or examination center.

CBSE has directed its Regional Offices to appoint external examiners for all Class 12 supplementary practical examinations. Internal examiners will be appointed by schools or center superintendents from among their own teachers.

The board clarified that schools and examination centers must not appoint external examiners on their own.

The practical examinations must be conducted using the answer books supplied by the Regional Offices. Examiners have been instructed to complete all entries carefully and accurately.

Schools and examination centers have also been directed to upload the practical marks awarded to students on the CBSE portal on the same day the examination is conducted.

The board said the marks uploaded on the portal will be treated as final, and no requests for changes will be entertained afterward.

Eligible students have been asked to contact their respective schools or examination centers by July 27, carrying a copy of their result or mark sheet along with their admit card.

They should also confirm the date and time of their practical examination and report to the designated venue accordingly.

The circular further instructs school principals and center superintendents to prepare subject wise lists of eligible students, coordinate with the concerned Regional Office for the appointment of external examiners wherever required, inform students about the examination schedule in advance, and share their practical examination plan with the Regional Office.

CBSE Regional Offices have been directed to prepare center-wise and subject wise lists of eligible candidates, appoint external examiners in advance wherever necessary, ensure the timely completion of practical examinations, oversee the uploading of marks on the portal, and collect the practical answer books from examination centers.
