The state government plans to expand free textbook access, regularize ad hoc teachers, and post health workers in hostels to improve learning conditions and student welfare.
The Odisha government is set to hire over 44,000 primary school teachers across the state within the next three years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Aug 21.
Of the total vacancies, around 40,000 will be newly created positions aimed at enhancing the quality of foundational education.
The chief minister said the move aligns with the state's efforts to improve learning outcomes in government-run schools.
He also confirmed that the services of primary teachers currently working on an ad hoc basis under various schemes will be regularized.
“The chief minister has directed to fill up 44,433 posts in the next three years. About 15,000 primary teacher posts will be filled every year," a release from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
Alongside the recruitment push, Majhi has asked officials to expand the state's free textbook program to include students in Classes 9 and 10.
Currently, free textbooks are provided only to those in Classes 1 to 8.
To strengthen student welfare, the government also plans to post Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) in hostels, ensuring better healthcare support for children staying there, the release added.
In a separate development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Aug 19 that his administration has offered jobs to nearly 55,000 young people since taking office.
“Previous governments gave a miniscule number of jobs to the youth at the fag end of their tenures, but ever since my first day in office, I have made sure that the deserving youth get the jobs,” Mann said while handing out appointment letters to new recruits.
