The initiative connects aspirants with student mentors for guidance on branch preferences, academics, placements, and campus life during the ongoing seat allocation process.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has introduced a dedicated JoSAA Counselling Helpdesk 2026 to support JEE Advanced-qualified candidates as they navigate the ongoing seat allocation process.
The initiative, managed by the institute's Academics and Career Council (AnC), aims to provide aspirants with direct access to verified IIT Kanpur student mentors who can answer questions related to academic programs, branch selection, placements, campus life, internships, and other aspects of the admission process.

Alongside the helpdesk, IIT Kanpur will host an online JoSAA Open House on June 9, offering candidates and their parents an opportunity to interact with the institute's leadership and faculty members and learn more about academic and student life opportunities on campus.
The helpdesk operates through an official WhatsApp community launched on June 2, shortly after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2026 results.
Through the platform, prospective students can connect with current IIT Kanpur students from different departments and receive guidance based on firsthand experiences.
To streamline interactions, the community includes department-specific discussion groups, general query forums, and announcement channels that provide counseling updates and information relevant to aspirants throughout the admission cycle.
"The JoSAA Helpdesk reflects our commitment to supporting incoming students with honest, first-hand guidance. We want every aspirant to make a confident, well-informed decision regarding their academic future," said Adwaaiit Pande, General Secretary (UG), Academics and Career Council, IIT Kanpur.
According to the institute, candidates can seek assistance on a wide range of topics, including branch preference selection during JoSAA counseling, academic curriculum and flexibility, internships, placements, research opportunities, higher studies, hostel life, student clubs, festivals, and campus facilities.
The support initiative will remain active throughout the counseling season. JoSAA 2026 registration and choice filling are scheduled to continue until June 11, followed by mock seat allocations and multiple rounds of seat allotment. IIT Kanpur said the helpdesk will operate until the conclusion of the seat allocation process in mid-July.
The Academics and Career Council serves as IIT Kanpur's primary student body for academic support, career guidance, and student welfare.
It regularly organizes mentoring programs, academic assistance initiatives, and counseling activities for students, with the JoSAA Helpdesk being one of its key annual outreach programs for prospective entrants.
As part of its outreach efforts, the institute will also conduct an online Open House at 10 am on June 9 for JEE Advanced 2026 qualifiers and their parents.
The session will feature the Director of IIT Kanpur, deans, and senior faculty members, who will present an overview of the institute's academic offerings, research ecosystem, placements, student support systems, and campus life.
Participants will also be able to engage directly with institute officials during an interactive question-and-answer session covering academics, research opportunities, placements, student life, and the JoSAA counseling process.
Eligible candidates can register for the helpdesk through the official registration form or by scanning the QR code provided on the institute's official promotional material.
IIT Kanpur said all registration information will remain confidential and will be used only for verification purposes.
