NRI applicants can complete identity verification using passport details, with the agency also directing candidates to its Oct 28 and 30 public notices for further instructions.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates can use their passports as identity proof while applying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027 Session 1. The clarification addresses concerns raised by applicants who do not possess an Aadhaar card, PAN card or driving license.
The agency confirmed the provision while responding to a candidate's query on its official X account. The applicant had sought clarification on the alternative identity documents accepted for NRI candidates who do not have any of the three commonly used identification documents.

In its response, NTA confirmed that passports can be used to complete the JEE Main 2027 application process. The clarification provides an alternative for eligible NRI applicants who may not have access to the other identity documents.
The registration process for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 started on Oct 24. Interested candidates can submit their application forms through the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, until Nov 22, 2026.
According to NTA, the application submission and fee payment facilities will remain available until 11:50 PM on the respective closing dates. Candidates must complete both steps within the prescribed deadline to successfully submit their applications.
How to register for JEE Main 2027 using a passport?
NRI candidates who intend to use their passports as identity proof can complete the registration process through the official JEE Main website. They must provide the required personal and academic information and upload the necessary documents.

What did NTA say about passport use?
NTA issued the clarification after an NRI candidate approached the agency through its official X account regarding the identity documents required for JEE Main 2027 registration.
The candidate wanted to know whether an applicant without an Aadhaar card, PAN card or driving license could complete the registration process using a passport.
Responding to the concern, the testing agency confirmed that the alternative document could be used for the application. NTA said, "You can now use passport to complete the application process. In case you need to submit fresh application then you may refer to public notice dated 28th and 30th October at jeemain.nta.nic.in."
The agency also directed the candidate to its public notices dated Oct 28 and Oct 30 for additional information about the application process.
The clarification specifically addresses the identity verification concerns of NRI candidates who may not possess the other identification documents mentioned in the registration process.
What to do after submitting the JEE Main 2027 application form?
After completing the online registration, candidates should verify that their application forms have been successfully submitted and the examination fee has been paid. They should also retain the confirmation page and application details.
