The annual festive tradition brought together institutional leaders, faculty members and students to celebrate the spirit of Christmas through a traditional cake mixing ceremony.

Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) marked the beginning of the Christmas season by organising its traditional cake mixing ceremony at Hindustan International School, Guindy, Chennai. Held on October 30, the celebration brought together the Group's leadership, heads of institutions, faculty members, staff and students for a festive gathering.
The ceremony was led by Dr Anand Jacob Verghese, Chairman of Hindustan Group of Institutions, and attended by members of the Hindustan family. The event celebrated the traditional Christmas custom of mixing dried fruits, nuts and aromatic spices, symbolising unity, prosperity, sharing and the joy of the festive season.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Anand Jacob Verghese highlighted the significance of Christmas values and the role of institutional celebrations in strengthening community relationships. He said that Christmas offers an opportunity to reflect on love, peace, compassion and goodwill. He added that such celebrations help bring students, faculty members and staff together, allowing them to build stronger connections beyond their regular academic and professional responsibilities.
The cake mixing ritual was the highlight of the event, with participants coming together to prepare the traditional mixture of dried fruits, nuts and spices used in Christmas cakes. The centuries-old festive custom is widely associated with the preparation of Christmas plum cakes and represents the spirit of sharing and collective celebration.
The ceremony also reflected Hindustan Group of Institutions' emphasis on creating a connected campus community through cultural celebrations and shared experiences. By involving members from different institutions and departments, the event provided an opportunity for students and staff to participate in a traditional festive activity.
Beyond the culinary tradition, the celebration highlighted the broader values associated with Christmas, including kindness, generosity, harmony and goodwill. The gathering encouraged interaction among members of the academic community and reinforced the importance of building meaningful institutional relationships.
The event concluded with a festive atmosphere, formally welcoming the Christmas season across the Hindustan Group of Institutions. The annual celebration continues to serve as an occasion for bringing the institution's community together through traditions that promote unity, cultural participation and a sense of belonging.
