The projects, focused on improving schools and healthcare facilities, will be implemented through Nepal’s local bodies with funding support from India under its High Impact Community Development initiative.
India and Nepal have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to undertake five High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) aimed at improving education and healthcare infrastructure across various provinces in Nepal.
The total estimated cost of these projects is NRs 390 million and will be funded under the Government of India’s grant assistance.
The agreements were signed by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal’s Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and local project implementing agencies.
The projects will be carried out through municipal and rural bodies of the Government of Nepal.
The five new initiatives include the construction of Shree Jan Shakti Secondary School in Dhanusha, Shree Mahobani Padam Secondary School in Parsa, Shree Basuki Secondary School in Achham, a school building with a hostel and library for Benga Sah Secondary School in Bara, and a five-bed hospital building in Manang.
The new infrastructure is expected to improve access to quality education and healthcare in underserved areas.
These projects will be implemented by local authorities to ensure community-level benefits.
“Since 2003, the Government of India has taken up 579 High Impact Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal,” an official statement said.
Of these, 496 have already been completed, spanning sectors such as health, education, sanitation, drinking water, connectivity, and public utility infrastructure across all seven provinces.
The remaining projects are currently under various stages of implementation.
India and Nepal continue to strengthen their bilateral cooperation through grassroots development partnerships across multiple sectors.
