The incident took place at a government-aided residential school in Jalna, where an 8-year-old boy was found dead in the dormitory after a fight with two fellow students.
An 8-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by two fellow students at a residential school in Maharashtra’s Jalna district, police said on July 23.
The incident took place at a government-aided English-medium school for tribal children in Bhokardan tehsil.
The child was found dead in the school dormitory on the morning of July 22. Hospital staff later confirmed his death and noted visible strangulation marks on his neck.
“An altercation broke out between the victim and two other minors, aged 8 and 14. The two allegedly strangled the victim with a rope while he was asleep. We have detained the juveniles involved, and an investigation is underway,” said District Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal.
Police said the three students had argued over a minor issue on the evening of July 21. Later that night, the accused reportedly attacked the victim while he was sleeping.
The school staff rushed the child to a hospital the next morning when he failed to wake up, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case has been registered, and further inquiry is ongoing.
