The program will support 100 athletes with disabilities through monthly stipends and scientific training, aiming to enhance their performance in national and international events, including the Paralympics.
IIT Madras, in partnership with SBI Foundation, has introduced a scholarship scheme aimed at supporting para-athletes nationwide with both financial assistance and advanced scientific training.
The initiative will cover 100 athletes with disabilities, offering each a monthly stipend of ₹40,000 to prepare for national and international competitions.
Alongside funding, the program will provide structured, science-based training to enhance performance.
"This initiative combines access to resources, data-driven guidance, and mentorship to enable athletes to perform at high levels of competition," IIT Madras said, adding that it aims to strengthen inclusivity in sports and boost India’s prospects in global events like the Paralympics.
The institute noted that the effort is part of a broader plan to establish a long-term framework for the growth of para-sports in India.
Acrophase, the Centre of Excellence in Human Performance at IIT Madras, is delivering technical support under the leadership of Professor Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam.
The program was launched on Aug 14 in the presence of Sanjay Prakash, Managing Director and CEO of SBI Foundation, along with other senior representatives.
