IIM Sambalpur conducted a two-day Harvard Business Impact ‘Teaching with Cases’ seminar on Aug 13 and 14, in collaboration with Harvard Business Publishing Education, to train faculty members and PhD scholars in the case-based teaching method.

Sessions also explored the strengths and limitations of the approach in different teaching settings.

A notable focus was on integrating generative AI into teaching preparation, including using AI tools to design discussion plans, present alternative perspectives, and apply analytics to track learning outcomes.

"AI can support classroom decision-making and help improve overall teaching effectiveness," said seminar leader Prof VG Narayanan, Thomas D Casserly Jr Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean, Executive Education, Harvard Business School Online.

He was joined by senior representatives from Harvard Business Publishing, including Dviwesh Mehta, Rahul Roy, and Priyamvada Saraswat.

Welcoming the participants, IIM Sambalpur Director Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal described the program as a chance to learn from experts in case-based teaching.

He stressed that while AI is transforming business, creativity, culture, and human leadership remain essential to management education.

“As a new IIM, we want to think differently, teach differently, and prepare our students to lead in this changing world,” he said.

The seminar also included an interactive session for MBA students and staff on preparing for careers in an AI-driven business landscape, highlighting the need to blend core management skills with adaptability and technological literacy.

The event concluded with a valedictory session, certificate distribution, and a group photograph, marking a step forward in aligning IIM Sambalpur’s teaching methods with global best practices.
