The institute has submitted a detailed proposal to the Maharashtra government, aiming to offer interdisciplinary programs aligned with NEP 2020 and the state’s Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision.

The Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) has formally proposed setting up a satellite campus in or around the city.
The proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government's Department of Higher and Technical Education.

The planned satellite campus will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in key disciplines, including economics, accounting and finance, technology and data science, and law and regulation.
According to IIM Mumbai, the proposal outlines a comprehensive financial and infrastructure blueprint aimed at creating a campus that fosters interdisciplinary learning and cutting-edge research.
The initiative is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes flexibility, innovation, and holistic growth in higher education.
It also supports the goals of the state’s “Viksit Maharashtra 2047” vision, which seeks to position Mumbai as a global hub for finance, policy, technology, and academic excellence.
“This proposal represents a rare opportunity to institutionalize excellence in management education with a core emphasis on finance and technology. The proximity to regulators and key institutions will provide students with unmatched exposure and engagement with live policy, innovation, and industry frameworks – essential for shaping leadership for the future,” IIM Mumbai Director Manoj K Tiwari said.
